The new site is located here http://615flash.com. You will be redirected to http://615flash.ning.com.
At the end of this month I will be redirecting traffic from 615Flex to 615Flash.ning.com. Please go ahead and make the move and help me move discussions to the new site. I will be doing a couple of videos to show some of the features of the new site sometime soon.
Yeah I know it may feel like a pain in the ass but I promise it is going to be for the best. In case you didn’t check your google group email…..
The 615Flex group is now going to be “615Flash” - The Nashville Flash Platform UG. My thoughts on the mover are all good. In my opinion we all know that Flex is just components that you can use to develop applications that run in the flash player. Like it or not we are “Flash Developers”. Also there are a tone of ”Flash” guys in the area that don’t know what “Flex” is and would never come to the meetings or even join the group. This way we open up the perception of who the group is for and we all benefit by adding to the number of members and also topics that we cover.
This does not mean that we are not going to talk about Flex. I say this gives us more opportunity to teach Flex to non-flex users.
I COULD not be successful running the group without all of you and all the hard work is worth it to me. I continue to meet great people and make close friends. The first 2 years of running the group have been awesome and I look forward to many many many more!

note the address will take you to “Behind Beyond the Edge” the venue is a white building behind the bar.

The next UG meeting will be this coming week. First up let me apologize for not being prepped and giving you guys notice of the meeting. The past few weeks have been busy for me. We normally meet the 2nd Tue of the Month but to give you guys more time to plan to come out I am moving it to Thursday this time around.
The next meeting will be all up to you guys as far as topics go. My plan is to have more of a Q & A / talk about whatever you guy want, so get your suggestions in. I can’t promise to cover everything but if someone would also like to show off some code or talk about some stuff they are working on that would be great as well. We will meet at the usual location (RW office).
If you have something you would like to show or talk about please hit up the 615flex google group or email me directly.
If you are still new to AS3 or Flex this will be a good time to get your questions answered. I can also talk about some rather cool topics if you guys are interested in Live Video Streaming and I could also work in a little Java.
This will be more of a Socializing hang and talk about the thing we love… The Flash platform and the Flex framework.
Scott “The Anti-Pimp” Gordon from Vaco will be sponsoring as usual

Adobe Cares. You don’t have the cash but you need a legit install of Adobe Flex Builder. Well here are two options.
1. There has a been a program around for a while now that allows students, faculty, or anyone with a student ID to get a serial number for free. freeriatools.adobe.com. Just submit a copy of your ID.
2. The next program Adobe just announced. If you are a developer and you have been part of a layoff then you are in luck. Adobe is providing Flex Builder to you guys now as well. Here are more details on that.
Up until now the resources for practicing for the Flex 3 / AIR certification has been pretty non-existent. That is why we started trying our best to cover the material over the next few months at the Nashville Flex User Group meetings. As the user group manager I am on an adobe mailing list and they where sharing a download link today that I ran across that will be really helpful with getting all of you ready to take the exam. This is a free download and will be really useful for preparing for the exam.
We have Dave Flatley at PXL Designs, LLC and Holly Schinsky at Rich Desktop Solutions, Inc to thank for this practice exam. These two veteran Adobe Flex Developers and software engineers know the ins and outs of Flex, and decided that Attest should be free for non-commercial use and the Flex community at large, or anyone looking to become a certified developer.
Learn more about the exam and the test prep here.
We will be covering part to in the Exam Prep PDF for getting your Flex / AIR certiication at the next meeting. Here are the topics that we will be covering.
Flex system architecture and design
• Create and use custom components.
• Transfer data between components by using data bindings.
• Create, handle, and dispatch custom events.
• Handle framework events.
• List and describe the differences between model, view, and controller code in a Flex
application.
Also at the next meeting we will be drawing for a Flex Standard License. All you have to do is show up.
